We are delighted to announce that we have been selected as the finalist for The Construction Computing Awards in the Innovation of the Year Category for 2022.
The Construction Computing Awards or “The Hammers” as they are also known are back for 2022. These awards are designed to showcase and reward the technology, tools and solutions for the effective design, construction, maintenance and modification of commercial buildings, residential and social housing and civil engineering projects of all sizes.
Among the finalist is our latest generation technology the Portascanner® AIRTIGHT 520. This instrumentation is our most advanced ultrasonic room integrity testing tool.

The Portascanner® AIRTIGHT 520
The Portascanner® AIRTIGHT 520 can be used to locate and quantify even minor leak sites quickly, easily, and non-destructively. It records of all of your tests – including images of the test structure with leak sites clearly marked – which are stored on the device and can be exported to an external drive at your convenience, all with an intuitive, touchscreen interface.
This technology was initial designed during COVID-19 with support from UK Government COVID-19 Emergency Technology Funding to monitor and control airborne infection in NHS Wards. It was subsequently developed for application in the built environment to assess the airtight integrity of a given space. The Portascanner® AIRTIGHT 520 builds on Coltraco’s long history in watertight integrity monitoring for the Royal Navy to deliver the Safeship™ at sea, by applying our advanced understanding of fluid dynamics at sea to air flow dynamics to deliver the Safesite™ on land.
The unique ability to detect, locate and quantify air leaks, non-disruptively and without the need for any room pressurisation, in a complementary manner to existing Door Fan and Pulse Airtightness Testing, will enable users of the Portascanner® AIRTIGHT 520 to make sharper decisions, verify technical specifications, and reveal possible defects if design standards have not been met rapidly and reliably.
All of which enables you to ensure regulatory compliance, meeting requirements such as ISO 14520-1:2015 (Gaseous fire-extinguishing systems – Physical properties and system design – Part 1:
General requirements) and national building regulations.
ACCURATE: Determine air leakage rates through walls, doors, seals.
RESULTS-BASED: Calculate number of leaks, leak area, total air flow rate and air permeability rate.PRECISE: Accurately identify leaks, so remedial measures can be taken. Without knowledge of leak location and size, the best that can be done is to “patch and hope”, which cannot guarantee airtightness.
FAST & EASY: Quicker, cheaper & easier than the alternative.
