Coltraco Ultrasonics’ Portasonic® 2.FL0 and Permaflow® non-invasive, non-destructive, and non-disruptive liquid ultrasonic flow meters, and Portasonic® Calculator hand-held tablet for calculating pipe pressure from flow meter measurements, are built entirely in the United Kingdom, competitively priced in the market worldwide through our unique R&D position, delivered with the guarantee of technical support, advice, and assistance throughout the lifetime of the unit, and available for exporting globally now.
Coltraco Ultrasonics’ liquid ultrasonics flow meters allow their users to be better-faster-cheaper in their applications. Made using a special composite material to optimise ultrasound transmission, our range of non-contact flow meters are accuracy and reliability tested and calibrated at an ISO 17025 certified laboratory for flow measurement in the UK, meeting accuracies of +/-0.5% of the true flow rate.
The Portasonic® 2.0 FL0 and Permaflow® measure 3 different types of flow rate: Volumetric Flow Rate, such as litres per hour, Mass Flow Rate, such as kilograms per hour, and Heat or Energy Flow Rate, such as kilowatt hour or British Thermal Unit. Both are fitted with a built-in oscilloscope for signal diagnostics as standard, to assist you in performing a reliable measurement as part of the setting up process.
This inter-applicational ability is enhanced by the availability of Standard and Large Sensor Options, so that the Portasonic® 2.0 FL0 and Permaflow® are capable of working on pipes ranging from DN15 to DN2500 (1/2” to 28”). The instruments both feature a built-in database of over 19 different fluids, and with the ultrasonic flow meter water, and other fluids, can easily be measured to determine flow rate. There is an option to input custom fluid types as long as the speed of sound in the fluid is known. The Permaflow® has an additional built-in database of over 23 different pipe materials.
The lightweight, handheld, portable Portasonic® 2.0 FL0, one of the world’s leading portable ultrasonic flow meters allows a single instrument to be used across multiple different pipes and pipe sections. Furthermore, the instrument features an integrated ultrasonic thickness gauge to simultaneously enable simple Non Destructive Testing on the wall thickness of your pipe to determine wall thickness and look for signs of corrosion. The Benefits of Coltraco Ultrasonics’ Ultrasonic Flow Meters over Inline Flow Meters and Coriolis Flow Meters
Coltraco Ultrasonics’ Portasonic® 2.0FL0 and Permaflow® non-contact ultrasonic flow meter clamp on two ultrasonic sensors to the outside of the pipe at a pre-determined distance apart. Ultrasonic signal travels between the transmitters through the pipe wall and the fluid within the pipe. The difference in time between the ultrasound traveling against the flow and with the flow is measured, with this very small time difference, usually only tens of nanoseconds, directly proportional to the flow velocity of the fluid.
Our flow meters ultrasonic are non-invasive, non-destructive and non-disruptive, able to perform accurate and reliable flow rate measurements on a variety of different fluids. As they are not in contact with the fluid being measured, they do not risk any drop in pressure throughout the pipe network, can be retrofitted to a broad range of pipe sizes, with no downtime to the pipe network or installation costs such as drilling into pipes, and cannot be damaged by the fluid being measured, which could contribute to longer lifespan and lower maintenance costs.
By comparison, inline flow meters, such as positive displacement flow meters and turbine flow meters, and Coriolis flow meters are invasively fitted solely to a specific range of pipe sizes, where the pressure of the pipework has previously been taken into account, so as to not damage the inline flow meter.
The Portasonic® Calculator – Delivering the Safesite™ on Land and the Safeship™ at Sea
Coltraco Ultrasonics’ recent invention, following the co-location of our Physicists and Scientists at Durham University, a globally outstanding centre of teaching and research excellence, the Portasonic® Calculator is the first instrument capable of retroactively determining the internal pressure within pipes to +/- 5% accuracy. An example of “practical scholarship”, the Portasonic® Calculator utilises Coltraco’s knowledge of the properties of over 19 different fluids and 23 different common pipe materials, which allowed us to acquire a detailed understanding of the pressure required to drive different fluids at a variety of flow speeds.
In tandem with Portasonic® 2.FL0 portable ultrasonic flow meters, the Portasonic® Calculator enables its user to quickly, closely and easily monitor the pressure in their pipe system, ensuring that it does not exceed safe tolerances, which may lead to pipe failure, damage to property, and risk to personnel, in an intuitive touchscreen tablet that saves data to records and export via USB or email, and filters records by date or pipe.
Coltraco Ultrasonics’ liquid ultrasonic flow meters and Portasonic® Calcultor give their users confidence in the quality, accuracy, and reliability of their measurements, improving safety standards above and beyond existing regulations for the benefit of personnel and assets, delivering the Safesite™ on land, and the Safeship™ at sea.
