Mr Tan was granted a scholarship from the Singapore Government to study in University of Newcastle-upon-Tyne, UK. I graduated with a BSc (Ist class Honours) in Marine Engineering. Thereafter, he served his National Service for 5 years as a Naval Engineer in the Singapore Navy. Mr Tan’s first job in the private sector was with a subsidiary of Wallems Shipmanagement as a Superintendent. Thereafter, he was to work in the Oil Industry for over 20 years initially as a Technical Service Executive and later in the Commercial Department. He worked for British Petroleum, Gulf Oil Corporation and Chevron Corporation. Mr Tan’s last employment was with a Singapore Government owned company which was an international trading corporation. Finally, he left and formed his own company Flair Oil Singapore. Mr Tan was previously a member of the Institute of Marine Engineers, UK and Council of Engineering Institute (CEng), UK.
