The Portagauge® 6 is a multiple echo ultrasonic thickness gauge for measuring the thicknesses of various metals and rigid plastics, which ignores any coating up to 20mm in thickness. It has a built-in datalogger to store up to 200,000 thickness measurements and minimum thickness alarm functionality.

Easily measure material thickness through paint layers/coatings without removing them. It is able to ignore paint coatings up to 20mm in thickness, giving you the material’s true thickness readings accurate to +/- 0.1mm.
The Portagauge® 6 ultrasonic thickness gauge measures through protective coatings, providing accurate and reliable thickness measurements. This helps you to determine the level of corrosion or erosion without the risk of causing further corrosion damage.
Our ultrasonic multi-echo technology is compliant with Classification Societies’ requirements and ignores layers of paint or coating up to 20mm in thickness, which gives you an actual metal thickness ONLY with accurate readings to +/- 0.1mm
The Portagauge® 6 multi echo ultrasonic thickness gauge is a highly accurate and reliable thickness gauge for measuring the thicknesses of various metals and hard plastics, developed to meet BS EN 15317:2013 which is the standard for ultrasonic testing, characterisation and verification of ultrasonic thickness measuring equipment.

The Portagauge® 6 has a built-in database of over 14+ materials for testing. Some of the materials listed are: Carbon Steel, Stainless Steel 304, Stainless Steel 316, Cast Iron, Ductile Iron, Copper, PVC, Lead, Nylon, Polyethylene (PE), Aluminium, Asbestos, Fibre Glass, Glass. There is also an input for custom materials, to allow you to input test material not in the list.
The accuracy relates to the instrument’s ability to measure as close as possible to the true thickness value whereas the resolution determines to what fraction of a measurement unit the instrument can reliably measure. For the Portagauge® 6, it is capable of measuring the thickness of a material to an accuracy of +/- 0.1mm with a resolution of +/- 0.01mm.
The wall thickness measurement that is displayed on the Portagauge® 6 represents the remaining wall thickness of the material that is in good condition. This is measured by the reflected sound waves coming from the portion of the good material left in the structure. By comparing the wall thickness measurement from the Portagauge® 5 to the actual wall thickness of the material when it was in brand new condition allows the operator to determine the severity of the corrosion.
The Portagauge® 6 performs excellently on materials without a paint coating. The multi-echo technology works just as reliably on surfaces without a paint coating, as it does on surfaces with a paint coating.
