We are delighted to share that Coltraco Ultrasonics has been granted a prestigious research and technology award by Innovate UK to support the journey towards achieving Net Zero in UK buildings. This achievement centers around our world-leading ultrasonic technology, particularly the Portascanner® AIRTIGHT, which enables rapid assessment of building fabric performance.

The official announcement of this research award took place at the UK Construction Week, where Mr. Daniel Dobrowolski, a Senior Physicist at Coltraco Ultrasonics, provided insights into the upcoming research and its significance.

This grant was secured by our dedicated Research & Development team in partnership with Durham University and Leeds Beckett University. The project’s primary objective is to accumulate empirical evidence and further enhance our globally renowned Portascanner® AIRTIGHT ultrasonic instrument. This instrument, originally rooted in our work with fluid dynamics and watertight integrity, found its origins in collaboration with the Royal Navy.

Coltraco Ultrasonics’ instruments are currently on board 17% of the world’s fleet of ships, significantly contributing to the safety of life at sea. The goal of this research project is to apply the knowledge and experience gained in fluid dynamics to air flow dynamics. By doing so, the aim is to make comprehensive air leak detection more quantitative, highly accurate, and user-friendly.

The importance of this research endeavor cannot be overstated. It aligns with the UK government’s ambitious Net Zero target for buildings, aiming to ensure that buildings meet the necessary airtightness requirements. Achieving this will be a pivotal step towards a more sustainable and environmentally responsible future.

Professor Carl Stephen Patrick Hunter OBE, Chairman of Coltraco Ultrasonics, expressed his congratulations and gratitude, stating, “I warmly congratulate the Scientific and Built Environment team at Coltraco Ultrasonics and thank UK Research & Innovation, and Innovate UK, for this prestigious award.”

Coltraco Ultrasonics continues to demonstrate its commitment to pioneering technology and innovation, driving progress towards a more sustainable and energy-efficient future. This research award marks a significant milestone on their journey to help the UK achieve its Net Zero goals and promote a greener, more environmentally conscious built environment. We look forward to the remarkable outcomes that this research collaboration will bring in the near future.
