This was a brilliant and insightful morning, with lots of engaging discussions from leading personnel from Shell, Intertanko, DNV GL and others.
The main focus was on firstly, how the maritime industry can realistically reach the Net Zero by 2050 goal set out in Maritime 2050, secondly, the growing demand for digitalisation, and thirdly, the absolute necessity for greater attention towards safety improvements.Shipping is one of the most dangerous industries in the world to work in, where one is five times more likely to have an accident/fatality in shipping than construction.
The two key areas that need attention are Leadership & Seafarer wellbeing. This can be improved through Technology & Policy, with governments working globally together to advance R&D and progress our important industry.
