Portasonic® PRO – one Instrument – two jobs!

The Portasonic® PRO uses ultrasonic sound waves to measure flow rate and uses this flow rate to calculate internal pipe pressure.

This is a simple and non-invasive solution to a variety of industrial needs all in one tablet-based ultrasonic clamp-on flow flow meter with pressure prediction software.

Portasonic® PRO

The Portasonic® PRO

Portasonic® PRO is the first instrument to use ultrasound to non-invasively calculate pressure and flow rates.

Key benefits of the Portasonic® PRO include:

  • The ability to measure flow rates non-invasively and calculate pressure quickly and easily.
  • An intuitive touchscreen tablet.
  • Accuracy to 0.5% of the true flow rate and within 5% of the internal pipe pressures.
  • Ability to save data to records and export via USB or email to ensure traceability.
  • Ability to filter records by date or by pipe.
  • Accounts for temperature and material roughness to produce results of the highest possible accuracy.
  • Ability to determine if your pipe is pressurised to within a safe tolerance.
  • ISO 17025 Verified meaning that your flow measurement accuracies are independently verified at an ISO 17025 laboratory, ensuring reliability and trustworthiness.

The pressure in a pipe varies from a maximum value at the input to a minimum value at the output. It is this pressure differential that drives the fluid through the pipe. The Portasonic® PRO calculates this maximum value based on the measured flow speed. Thus, the value obtained is the maximum pressure at any point in the pipe system, not including added complications such as valves.

Why use ultrasonic flow measurement and pressure monitoring?

Ultrasonic transit time technology is versatile and cost-effective when compared to other methods such as inline flow meters.

The Portasonic® PRO is clamp-on, portable, and non-invasive. This means that it does not require drilling into pipes which reduces installation costs and downtime, thereby saving you money. For pressure monitoring, this is a significant advantage because pressure gauges are invasive and costly to install in pre-existing systems which do not already have one.

Furthermore, by making no contact with the contents of the pipes, there is no risk of pressure loss or contamination and it reduces the risk of damage to the instrumentation. This ensures a longer lifespan and lower maintenance cost for your instrumentation when compared to inline and invasive flow and pressure meters.

The principle of flow measurement using ultrasonic clamp-on transit time measurement is simple and can be illustrated in the figure below.

Why Choose Coltraco’s Ultrasonic Flow Meters?

Our flow measurement devices provide accuracy and reliability, as proven at an ISO 17025-certified laboratory. We’re committed to providing the highest quality instruments to the market while remaining competitive on price.

This ultrasonic instrumentation is built with a special composite material to optimise ultrasound transmission, and all units come with a built-in oscilloscope for signal diagnostics that assists you in performing reliable measurements. Our transit-time meters far surpass mechanical flow meters, with an accurate flow sensor that can calculate volume flow easily. Each ultrasonic flow meter from us is designed to cater to a wide range of pipe sizes. They are virtually maintenance free and once they’re installed, and these ultrasonic flowmeters get straight to work.

Our ultrasonic instrumentation can be used for various applications providing a simple solution that can be applied across your facility. Including liquid measurement flow in full pipes, the measurement of clean liquids, including water, wastewater, oils, solvents, acids, and other conductive liquids, and the control of HVAC systems. The ultrasonic flow meter is ideal for applications where disrupting the flow is not an option as the technology is non-invasive and introduces zero downtime to the system.
