It was a great honour for our CEO to attend the AMERICAN BUREAU OF SHIPPING (ABS) EUROPE TECHNICAL COMMITTEE MEETING in Rome on 23rd February 2018. ABS are one of very few Classification Societies in our industry to discuss its Rules with its Members.
IMO Regulations depend for their implementation by its member Flag States maritime administrations. In this for example the UK’s Flag State administrator, the Maritime & Coast Guard Agency and the transparent publication of incident reports by the UK Maritime Accident Investigation Branch show vital and global leadership. ABS, along with other major Classification Societies such as Lloyds Register and DNV-GL, if recognised by the Flag State Ships Register, such as the UK Ships Register, establish and maintain technical standards for the construction and operation of ships and offshore structures.
ABS may be very proud in their world-leading engagement with members and our CEO wishes to thank Mr Stefano Penco, ABS VP Engineering – ABS Europe, who kindly invited him to join the Committee.
