A 5* Review

A new hydroelectric power generating dam in Canada recently received their new Portalevel® MAX device. Unsure exactly how the equipment worked, they utilised our YouTube Training videos to understand how to operate our instrumentation.

Our ultrasonic instrumentation is designed for ease of use which enables users to efficiently operate our equipment. However, a follow-up conversation with our technical team provided the dam’s team with a deeper understanding of the nuances involved in testing CO2 fire systems in a hydroelectric dam.

By utilising ultrasonic technology, our liquid level indicator, the Portalevel® MAX allows cylinders to be tested in-situ. This is a significant benefit because it removes the need for down-time and allows the plant to remain protected from fire. Additionally, by removing the need to manually weigh the cylinders, our instrumentation reduces the risk to technicians, lowers labour costs, and minimises the risk of damaging the system.

Power Generation

Coltraco Ultrasonics has been proudly serving the energy industry for 30 years. We supply instrumentation and systems to a variety of Power Plants across the power generation sector, including coal, hydroelectric, gas, and nuclear.

Our instrumentation allows you to ensure the integrity, safety, and efficiency of you plants through non-invasive and non-destructive testing of flow rates, liquid levels, thickness, and airtightness. Its ease of use facilitates regular testing and therefore, the early detection of issues. In so doing, it allows for proactive maintenance and prevents issues from escalating in to a major problem. Thereby, saving you money and enhancing the safety of the power plant.

The key benefits of our ultrasonic instrumentation for hydroelectric power, and the wider power generation sector, are outlined below:

  1. Safety: Enables the identification of defects before they lead to catastrophic failures. This helps prevent accidents that could endanger lives and cause significant environmental damage.
  2. Reliability: Regular ultrasonic inspections help maintain the reliability of power generation equipment by ensuring that all components are in good working condition. Consequently, reducing the risk of unexpected outages.
  3. Cost-effective: Early detection of issues allows for timely repairs and prevents them escalating into more expensive failures. Subsequently minimising the cost and downtime associated with significant overhauls or replacements.
  4. Regulatory Compliance: Power stations and hydro-gas plants are subject to stringent safety and maintenance regulations. Ultrasonic testing ensures compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements.
  5. Efficiency: Ultrasonic testing contributes to the plant’s overall efficiency by maintaining the optimal equipment condition, ensuring it operates at peak performance.
