Overview

Delivering Safesite® With Speed And Precision

As part of Coltraco’s Safesite® mission, the Portalevel® MAX PLUS helps minimise risk in industrial environments by enabling quick, reliable fire suppression agent content monitoring. This device supports industries in ensuring regulatory compliance with ISO and NFPA standards and offers a far more convenient solution than weighing fire suppression cylinders. Its non-invasive, precise measurements ensure safety and compliance in operations across various sectors.

The Portalevel® MAX PLUS offers a far safer solution than traditional weighing methods. It complies with ISO and NFPA standards and does not require disassembly.

Non-Invasive: No cylinder disassembly or manual weighing is required.

Precise & Fast: Measures cylinder levels with ±1.5mm accuracy in less than 30 seconds per cylinder.

Adaptable: This device features three calibration modes and four power settings to measure various cylinder types, conditions, and sizes.

Robust Design: The IP65-rated enclosure and backlit LCD make it suitable for use in challenging environments, including dimly lit areas.

Expanding Applications Across Multiple Industries

While traditionally used in fire safety, the Portalevel® MAX PLUS is designed to meet the diverse needs of several industries:

  • Marine: Critical for monitoring CO2 fire suppression cylinders aboard ships, reducing downtime while ensuring operational safety.
  • Energy and Power Generation: Ensures precise monitoring of fire suppression systems, maintaining regulatory compliance in power plants.
  • Oil & Gas: Enables fire safety monitoring in hazardous environments with high-pressure containers, ensuring safety without disrupting operations.
  • Fire Safety Compliance: Used by facilities worldwide to verify agent levels and ensure adherence to ISO 14520 and NFPA 2001 regulations.

Handling Liquefied Clean Agents and High Temperatures

The Portalevel® MAX PLUS is designed to handle various liquified clean agents like FM200™ and NOVEC™ 1230, ensuring accurate monitoring across various fire suppression agents. Although these agents are more stable at higher temperatures than CO2, the high-temperature effect can cause slight changes in the liquid level.

Despite this, the device can still reliably measure the agent, providing accurate results across various temperatures. In contrast, CO2 is impossible to measure at temperatures above or close to 31°C as it enters a supercritical state.

Agent Weight Calculation With Portasteele® CALCULATOR

The Portalevel® MAX PLUS can be paired with the Portasteele® CALCULATOR for even greater functionality. This combination allows users to convert liquid level readings into accurate fire suppression agent weight, offering:

Traceability: The liquid level is traceable to the agent weight, providing documented evidence required by manufacturers.

Temperature Correction: Automatic adjustments account for temperature fluctuations, ensuring accurate measurements regardless of environmental conditions.

Data Logging: All measurements are saved with time and date stamps, ensuring compliance with ISO and NFPA audit trails.

Simple Yet Effective Operation

Using the Portalevel® MAX PLUS is straightforward, providing both exceptional accuracy and ease of use:

  1. The transducer emits an ultrasonic pulse into the cylinder.
  2. The central unit analyses the signal reverberating in the cylinder, indicating whether the local contents are liquid or gas.
  3. Operators can move the sensor along the cylinder to quickly and accurately detect the liquid/gas boundary, completing the task in under 30 seconds.

Why Portalevel® MAX PLUS Stands Out

The Portalevel® MAX PLUS sets itself apart by combining ease of use, adaptability, and precise measurement capabilities. This device is trusted for industries with critical fire suppression systems because it supports safety, compliance, and operational efficiency across multiple sectors.

Whether managing maritime safety or ensuring compliance in power generation, the Portalevel® MAX PLUS provides unmatched performance.

Accurately Measuring Fire Suppression Agents in Cylinders

The Portalevel® MAX PLUS is designed to reliably measure the contents of fire suppression cylinders, detecting the point of transition from the liquid to the gas phase. This precision tool is essential for maintaining fire safety systems, as it accurately detects the level of the fire suppression agent contained within the cylinder.

The Portalevel® MAX PLUS can quickly and efficiently determine the exact liquid level without weighing the cylinders.

By using non-invasive ultrasonic technology, operators can save time and effort while ensuring compliance and safety, making it an ideal solution for monitoring and maintaining the integrity of fire suppression systems.

Frequently asked questions

The Portalevel® MAX PLUS can measure the level of various liquids. The primary application is to check the liquid level in fire suppression cylinders. These agents commonly include: CO2, FM200™, NOVEC™ 1230, Halon agents, FE-13™, FE-25™, NAF S III™ and, all core Clean Agent systems. However, the Portalevel® MAX PLUS has been shown to work on other liquids such as water, fuel, LPG and even mayonnaise in the processed food industry.
The Portalevel® MAX PLUS can identify the liquid level to ±1.5 mm of the actual liquid level. When using the Portasteele® CALCULATOR to convert the liquid level to agent weight, the results are accurate to within 1%.
CAL1—This is the standard setting to be used in most cases. It will work when the trend in readings you observe goes from high to low with a significant drop-off (see annexe for explanation). CAL2 will be used when the difference between high and low readings is excellent or if CAL 1 is insufficient. CAL3—This mode will be used when the difference between high and low readings is slight and CAL 1 or 2 is insufficient.
The Portalevel® MAX PLUS is one of the most powerful we have developed and works on an extensive range of cylinder sizes. If it is unsuitable for your application, our extensive range of products can measure anything from 2.5 cm to over 15 m in diameter, so get in touch to find out which unit suits your application.
No, you can use any ultrasonic gel or petroleum jelly available in most pharmacies. Water will also work, but a hot environment needs regular application.
Unfortunately, above this temperature, CO2 converts into a supercritical fluid state, and your cylinder will no longer have a liquid level to measure. We recommend testing CO2 in lower temperatures. Please get in touch if you need recommendations for hot climate CO2 monitoring.
However, these agents are far more stable at higher temperatures than CO2. Although the liquid level will naturally rise with increased temperature, it is far less than with CO2 and, therefore, can still be tested.
Yes, this unit is specifically designed to work despite the presence of a siphon tube.
