At Coltraco Ultrasonics we support customers to improve their safety across many industries from fire safety engineering to power generation to specialised buildings and the maritime sphere.

It is valuable to understand the pros and cons of different industries in terms of implementing a safety culture.

For example, as members of the UK Chamber of Shipping’s Safety Culture Working Group, we considered taking onboard the definition of “safety culture” from the nuclear industry which is very interesting. The IAEA defines a strong safety culture as the “assembly of characteristics, attitudes and behaviours in individuals, organizations and institutions which establishes that, as an overriding priority, protection and safety issues receive the attention warranted by their significance.” Similarly, the IAEA defines a strong security culture as the “assembly of characteristics, attitudes and behaviour of individuals, organizations and institutions which serves as means to support and enhance nuclear security.”
