This first in the world capability by the Portascanner® AIRTIGHT 520 enables the user to precisely locate any air leaks and subsequently quantify its extent and generate the air permeability of the room. The successful development of this technology was a result of the Innovate UK Covid-19 Grant in 2020 for British businesses to develop complementary technology to combat the Covid-19 pandemic.
The non-disruptive nature of ultrasound allows the work to be conducted with occupants present in the room. This technology complements the existing door fan or blower door test that needs to be conducted in every room or building, whether it is to evaluate its room integrity for installing a new fire suppression system or to calculate the air changes per hour in the case of the Built environment, to meet Passivhaus standards.
