Expanding Innovation: Introducing Engineering Services
We have become one of the few UK manufacturers in our field, with integrated design, development, prototyping, and manufacturing capabilities, with a “surge” manufacturing capacity.
Building on these successes, we are looking forward to launching a new product design, engineering, scientific and manufacturing services capability to further support our customers.
This is a natural extension of our scientific research capabilities in our research Institute, the Durham Institute of Research, Development & Invention which comprises over 400 senior academics from Durham, Oxford, Cambridge, Imperial College, UCL and KCL.
New Product Development: Our Upcoming Launches in 2025
- An advanced method of liquid level indication, principally for the fire safety engineering, marine & offshore safety and wind energy sectors
- The most accurate and ergonomic means of monitoring airtightness and energy loss in the Built Environment, Clean Rooms, and Laboratories
- A new means of testing watertight integrity aboard ships, offshore energy platforms and Naval warships, submarines, and fleet logistics support vessels
- Developing our world leading infection control monitoring technology in negatively pressurised hospital Intensive Care Units, to prevent infection contagion from them to the rest of a hospital

This year we have made significant advances for UK innovation and in our mission to deliver Safeship™ and Safesite™ as described above. We have now won the Queen’s Award for Enterprise twice and are delighted to export 90% of our manufactured output to customers in 120 countries annually.

At Coltraco Ultrasonics, science-led innovation is at the heart of what we do. This year, we have innovated and launched 4 new instruments adding greater capabilities to our liquid level, flow and thickness product ranges. We are proud to be working alongside our customers as their technical partner to provide them with product-based solutions to address their challenges.
Next year, we are excited to launch our product design, engineering and manufacturing services capability to further assist customers who require a bespoke solution for their business. Whether it is a new device you are looking to develop or that you require a physical product designed specifically to address a challenge in your business, we are here to assist you.
In addition to our rich experience in designing and manufacturing devices, this new capability draws upon the strengths of our research institute, the Durham Institute of Research, Development & Invention (DIRDI) which has now over 400 senior university academic fellows.
